The creation of the National Park has met the demands of society and the scientific community, to create a protected area to protect significant samples of the Pantanal ecosystem. The National Park incorporated the old Caracará Biological Reserve, created in the 70's, added to an old farm of cattle which had its permanently flooded area as a result of environmental change on wetland after the great flood of 1974. In the 80s the Park national served as a base of operations in fighting alligators hunters. The National Park had its management plan approved in 2004.
